About Veer Narmad South Gujarat University

Introduction

Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU) is one of the leading public universities in Gujarat, dedicated to providing quality higher education, promoting research, and supporting the overall development of society. Established under the South Gujarat University Act, 1965, the University became functional in 1966 and was formally incorporated on 23 May 1967. It was recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in 1968 and was renamed Veer Narmad South Gujarat University in 2004 in honour of the renowned Gujarati poet Narmad (Narmadshankar Lalshankar Dave).

Located in Surat, the University has a beautiful campus spread across 210 acres. It serves the educational needs of seven districts and two Union Territories, offering quality education in diverse fields including science, technology, commerce, management, humanities, languages, fine arts, and social sciences. The University continuously strives to meet regional development needs while preparing students to contribute effectively to national progress.

VNSGU has consistently maintained high academic standards through excellence in teaching, research, innovation, and extension activities. The University was accredited with ‘A’ Grade (CGPA 3.02) by NAAC in 2017 and re-accredited with ‘B++’ Grade (CGPA 2.86) in 2022, reflecting its commitment to continuous quality improvement and institutional excellence.
