About Patan District
Introduction
Patan District was formed on 2 October 1997 by reorganizing parts of the former Mahesana and Banaskantha districts of Gujarat. The district was created by including the talukas of Patan, Siddhpur, Chanasma, Harij, and Sami from Mahesana District, along with Radhanpur and Santalpur from Banaskantha District. The district headquarters is located in Patan.
The district comprises nine talukas: Patan, Santalpur, Radhanpur, Siddhpur, Harij, Sami, Chanasma, Saraswati, and Sankheshwar. It is situated between 20°41′ and 23°55′ North Latitude and 71°31′ to 72°20′ East Longitude, covering an area of approximately 5,600 square kilometres.
Patan District is bordered by Banaskantha District to the north and north-west, Kutch District to the west, the Little Rann of Kutch and parts of Surendranagar District to the south and south-east, and Mahesana District to the east. Rich in history, culture, and heritage, Patan is one of Gujarat’s most significant districts, known for its architectural landmarks and cultural legacy.
